HADIG /Armenian popular dessert / Sweet Whole Wheat grain with Toppings

Armenian special traditional dessert prepared only to celebrate for baby’s first tooth .
-Celebration is so fun; you need white clean sheet to put on the floor, a white scarf ,few toys or things like books,doctors tools toys,comb,gold bracelet,cooking tools, workshop tools toys ,like hammers etc..
-Arrange on the floor white sheet put all toys.Mother and the baby sits on the floor, whatever baby choose from the toys traditional thinking.. example chose doctors tools the baby will be a doctor,a cooking tools we’ll be a chef and etc.. few relatives holds the scarf on top of baby’s head and whoever is giving this party sprinkles few cooked whole wheat on top of the scarf this symbolizes to have lots more of easier teeth .
-I prepared this hadig for my grandson’s first tooth celebration day.Enjoy

Ingredients :
3 cups whole wheat grain

Topping:
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon aniseed powder
1/2 cup Coconut flakes
1 cup yellow raisins
1 cup pistachios
1 cup almonds
1 cup walnuts
1/2 cup colored candies tastes like aniseed
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
Preparation:
1.Wash few times whole wheat grain,soak in water 8 hours or overnight.
2.In a large pot add 9 cups of cold water add drained soaked wheat bring to boil ,reduce the heat to medium-low cook covered about 2 hours until the wheat grainhas softened .
3.Drain the wheat from water.
4.Spread the hot wheat on a serving plate, sprinkle with sugar,cinnamon ,aniseed ,decorate with coconuts, walnuts,almonds , pistachios,raisins,chocolate chips,colored candies.You can arrange each in different small bowls and serve beside the hot wheat grain ,leaving the garnish to individual taste .
5.Serve hot or room temperature.
