Halva with semolina
This delicious halva is great lenten dessert.
Unfortunately I didn’t taste it because of sugar.
Serve with hot coffee or tea and enjoy.( for Lenten dessert instead of butter use oil)
Ingredients:
250 g. unsalted butter or (oil I used butter)
5 tablespoons silvered almonds (keep aside 1 tablespoon for garnish)
2 cups semolina
5 cups water
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Preparation:
1.Combine water and sugar in saucepan,stir over heat until sugar is dissolved.Bring to boil simmer at medium-high heat uncovered without stirring 5 minutes,take out of heat add ground cinnamon,mix and keep aside.
2.In another saucepan heat butter add nuts and semolina,saute’ stirring constantly about 5 minutes or until semolina is lightly browned.Remove from heat.
3.Gradually stir hot syrup into semolina mixture,stir over low heat until smooth; cook stirring further 2 minutes.
4.Remove from heat,cover pan with folded tea-towel, then lid;keep aside 15 minutes.
5.Grease base of 20cm.round cake pan,cover base with wax paper.
5.Spread mixture evenly into pan.Place pan on wire rack,when slightly cool transfer the pan into refrigerator,keep for 1 hour until completely cold.Turn halva onto serving plate ,garnish with ground cinnamon and toasted almonds .Cut into wedges and serve cold
