Every year in July I like to prepare this delicious pie. Preparing the pie dough in food processor is very easy in just 15 minutes your dough is ready.Rolling dough between two plastics makes arranging fun. Preparation for blueberry filling is very quick too; just arrange fresh coated blueberries over crust in pie, drizzle with melted butter and vanilla, cover with the dough strips, sprinkle with sugar and put in oven.Enjoy.
Ingredients: for 9 inch pie dish
Crust:
1- 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup ice water
1- 1/2 teaspoons sugar (1 teaspoon to sprinkle over the strips) ( 1/2 teaspoon for the dough)
1/4 teaspoon salt
4- 1/2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
Cooking spray or vegetable shortening to coat lightly the pie dish
Filling:
6 cups fresh blueberries wash under running water and drain well.
1 cup sugar
3-1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon salt
1- 1/2 tablespoons unsalted melted butter
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preparation:
The crust
1.Dissolve 1/4 cup flour & ice water with hand blender,or fork.
2.In food processor add the rest flour 1-1/4 cups,1/2 teaspoon sugar,1/4 teaspoon salt,pulse for a second then gradually add blended water solution .Pulse few times until the dough holds together .
3.Transfer to a flat surface and knead for few minutes divide the dough into half; one slightly bigger then the other.
4.Roll first dough into 12 inch circle between two plastics.The second into 9 inch.Keep covered with plastics and place both in freezer for 10 minutes .
5. Arrange first 12 inch dough on the bottom of the pie dish. Lightly pick the dough with fork.
6. Cut the second 9 inch circle dough, into 6 strips.Place in fridge.
7.Preheat oven 375 degrees F.
8.Prepare the filling:
-Combine sugar,cornstarch and salt. Place blueberries in a large bowl .
-Add sugar cornflour mixture over blueberries gently shake the bowl to coat the blueberries.
9.Arrange the blueberries over the pie crust. Drizzle with melted butter and vanilla extract on top.
10.Cover the blueberries with the 6 strips dough , sprinkle with sugar .
11.Bake in preheated oven 375 degrees F.at the second level from the bottom ,for 1 hour and 15 minutes until crust browned and filling bubbly.

Place baking pie in a large baking sheet and put in oven to protect the oven from drippings.
