Traditionally served on Easter Sunday morning after the Resurrection Service.
The 3 dough ropes plaited together symbolize Holy Trinity; Jesus Christ Crown of thorns.
The Red Eggs, symbolize the blood shed by Christ.
The Sweet bread symbolizes Jesus who said “I am the bread of life” Enjoy.
Ingredients:
3 teaspoons dried yeast
1/3 cup sugar use 2 teaspoons to mix with yeast
1 cup warm milk
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 teaspoons ground all-spice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
90g.unsalted butter,melted
2 eggs
2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
Topping:
Egg wash:
1 egg lightly beaten,with 1 teaspoon water
1 tablespoon freshly chopped blanched almonds
4 eggs boiled and dyed-red
Preparation:
1.Combine yeast,2 teaspoons sugar and milk in small bowl,cover,stand in warm place about 10-15 minutes or until mixture is bubbly.
2.Sift flour,salt and spices into large bowl.
3.In cake mixer add eggs beat lightly,stir in remaining sugar,butter, lemon zest.
4.Change cake mixer to dough hook,add the yeast mixture and gradually add the flour and continue kneading about 7-8 minutes.
5.Turn dough into lightly floured surface,knead few minutes.
6.Place the dough lightly oiled bowl,cover,keep in warm place about 1 hour or until dough is doubled in size.
7.Knead dough on lightly floured surface.Divide dough into 3 pieces,roll into 60 cm long strands.Plait strands into large braid.
8.Place on lightly greased baking sheet pan,shape into 24cm.ring,pinch ends to seal.
9.Press red-dyed eggs firmly around ring.Cover,stand in warm place another 40 minutes.
10.Brush with egg wash,sprinkle with chopped almonds.
11.Bake in preheated oven 375 degrees F.for 10 minutes,reduce heat to 350 degrees F.and bake further 25 minutes or until browned.
